the halls of cities always seem indomitable
they frighten quiet bludgeon form create all: kids to adults
they stole our labor
i'll be pissing in my pants poor and old
and they won't be held responsible
they bombed the sewage, bridges, electric, hospitals and the damns
they wrecked some more shit just cause they wanted it on video
they killed the innocent, made capital, had dinner at ten
and they won't be held responsible
i'm white enough to know you get what you deserve, or don't get
i can't perceive suspicions that my brothers all travel in
their pockets empty, mine are stuffed with winks and good contraband
and who'll be held responsible?
they ruined families, savings, cities, people, animals, homes
they bet against themselves and double-crossed their own clientele
they got a trillion dollar handout, then came looking for more
and they won't be held responsible
they've got my calls and letters recorded since i was born
sometimes i say 'hello' or write them but they never write back
they've got all kinds of ways to make you think you're the only one
and they won't be held responsible
they've got all kinds of ways to make you drink the alcohol
and i won't be the only one
they've got all kinds of ways to make you think you're the only one
and i won't be the only one
about
This album was inspired by the Edward Snowden leaks. It features 14 artists, 12 Brooklyn-based. We figured the NSA was listening to our songs' progress along the way - or at least could be listening, and why wouldn't they with songs like these? - and so every day was a listening party for them. To all our conversations, communications, locations, gyrations and good vibrations. If they wanted something to listen to, all they had to do was ask! Sing with us, dance with us, laugh and cry and wonder why with us. Hey Kids, what do you say? We don't want to live - in a surveillance state.
